WikkiTimes Media Foundation is a Nigerian centre that advances journalism and accountability with particular interest in subnational media environment.

About us

As a nongovernmental organization based in the north-eastern state of Bauchi, the Centre focuses on the development of investigative and data-driven journalism, accountability, collaboration, safety of journalists in subnational strata, and strengthening voices of the vulnerable in the society. WikkiTimes Media Foundation prioritises the support for local media stations and journalists located in the North East, North West and North Central Nigeria.

Our mandate

Build capacity for journalists and media stations to provide an effective platform for all; and to improve civil society participation and governance institutions at subnational level.

Develop media paradigm that creatively enhances financial model of local media using the opportunity provided by ICT.

Advance freedom of expression and right to freely impart information that is rooted in our democratic values.

Support subnational institutions, agencies and organizations both governmental and nongovernmental to be open and accountable to the public.

Accountability

We work collaboratively with other partners as surveillance mechanism to hold those in position of authorities and influences to account for their action. Train and build professionals through engaging early career generation of journalists and media innovators in smaller newsrooms that beam their journalistic searchlight at state and LGAs. Mentor and empower journalism enthusiasts and student of higher institutions in northern Nigeria to develop interest in our brand of accountability journalism

Collaboration

Deliberate partnership with relevant stakeholders through trainings, projects and programmes implementation to deepen democratic culture and accountability that is media-championed at subnational level of North East, North West and North Central Nigeria. We’re championing media paradigm that could reinvigorate public trust and confidence in media and expand boundaries of opportunities that the media can harness while serving the public and engendering financial sustainability

Investigative Journalism

We deliver programmes that directly touch people’s lives and livelihood and set agenda for local authorities at the grass root level with our brand of investigative and data-driven journalism.

Strengthening Subnational Media Ecosystem for Public Interest

We provoke the spirit of investigation, accountability, collaborating with relevant stakeholders and promoting public integrity at subnational level with primacy to northern Nigeria to consolidate gains in Nigeria’s democratic sojourn.

We act in conjunction with media organizations and professionals that prioritise public integrity in their conduct and in entrenching democratic values at subnational levels.
